JPRacing - Godolphin’s 4,800,000 duo

JPRacing - Godolphin’s 4,800,000 duo 🔵

Haydock is off, but the good news for the jumps fans is that Ludlow goes ahead after passing its morning inspection — so we have racing over obstacles for the first time this week.

There were a couple of winners yesterday, with Talis Evolvere winning by a neck under Rossa Ryan at Wolverhampton and Light Speed getting up under Oisin Murphy at Lingfield earlier in the day to make it four on the spin for the telegram.

As well as Ludlow today, there are three AW cards at Lingfield, Dundalk, and Kempton.

So, let’s get on with it…

Ones to watch

The obvious ones to watch today are Godolphin’s El Cordobes and Kalidasa, who run back-to-back in the 17:30 and 18:00 at Kempton and are worth a combined 4.8m gns.

El Cordobes is a 2m gns yearling son of Frankel and is a brother to 1m AW winner Venus Rosewater, and this looks like a very winnable starting point for him — as the runners in the race who have experience haven’t fared any better than fifth. He’s currently evens.

Kalidasa is the world’s most expensive yearling of 2023, fetching a cool 2.8m gns, and is also a son of Frankel. The 2YO’s dam So Mi Dar won over 1m-1m2f (including a 2YO G3) and is a sister to G1 winner Too Darn Hot and G2 winner Lah Ti Dar. Very hard to oppose at 6/5.

I will be taking them both on as singles at those prices, but also doubling them up and some bookies will have that double boosted I am sure. At the minute I see SkyBet has it at 7/2.

Kaleidoscope is another interesting newcomer who catches the eye on Pedigree and in a race were a debutant could be successive in the 12:30 at Lingfield. She’s a daughter of Kingman out of Group 1 winner Lightening Pearl and a half-sister to four winners. Currently priced around 15/8, while her John and Thady Gosden stablemate Sea Ice appears the biggest danger at 11/4.

With jumps racing back it’s only right we have at least one over hurdles after backing on about the all-weather thus far, and the one that makes the most appeal for me at Ludlow is Miltiadaes in the 14:00.

The Henry Daly-trained horse is yet to shed its maiden tag but has made a stark improvement over fences, including when third at Warwick last month after a six-month break.

He tried to press two out but faded on the run-in for the finish. There’s every chance that he can come on for that run and do well again today, and 10/3 is a nice price.
