New Post

Good Afternoon, JPRacing subscribers!

Firstly, thank you for signing up to my new newsletter. I hope to make it a success with plenty of winners tipped amongst the chaos and something you enjoy reading Monday-Friday as well!

Headlines

Oisin Murphy’s hot-streak continued with another double on the card at Kempton yesterday — including, of course, my NAP Hellfire Bay. She was tipped at 9/4 and went off at a much shorter 6/4 before winning nicely for the Gosdens and Qatar Racing.

While Oisin is on fire, William Buick is continuing to stink up the place. The current Champion Jockey has won just five of his last 47 rides, giving him a strike rate of just 11%. He’s currently stateside for the Grade 1 Manhattan Stakes at Belmont Park, where he has a good chance on Ottoman Fleet (2/1), before returning for Sunday’s meeting at Goodwood.

Frankie Dettori looks set to have a good chance of finally winning the July Cup in his final crack at the Group 1 contest aboard Kinross. The Newmarket summer showpiece is the only top-level race missing from his CV and he will be desperate to sign off with a win in all 36 of Britain’s G1s. 10/1 is a tempting price for the Champion Sprinter, but Little Big Bear is a justified favourite.

One to watch

A lot was made of Diego Velazquez, with horse racing Twitter going into meltdown from the hype surrounding him before his debut at the Curragh yesterday was put on ice due to an allergy. We will have to wait a bit longer to see if the son of Frankel is a worthy favourite for next year’s 2000 Guineas and Derby.

For now though, I’ve got another Ballydoyle runner down to watch tonight — Buttons in the 17:30 over 7f at Leopardstown. She’s a good-looking filly out of Kingman and is the half-sister to six winners, including Antilles who won over this distance in Ireland as a 2YO. She is Ryan Moore’s pick of the O’Brien runners and was 11/8 when I informed the telegram to keep an eye out for her this evening, but is even money at best now.

Today’s NAP

Today’s NAP comes from this evening’s card at Yarmouth and it is Tom Marquand’s ride Eastern Charm for William Haggas in the opener at 17:40.

She had a bit of a lacklustre season as a 2YO last Autumn, finishing 9th, 8th and 7th in her three runs. But she returned with a win over C&D on soft ground here in April and she’s well backed to go back-to-back on this albeit very different going.

18:20 Chelmsford: Red Danielle (6/5)

Showed promise when clear second and only beaten by a neck at Goodwood 12 days ago, she has the best RPR rating (99) and credentials in the race and is the only runner with a future Group entry (Ribblesdale). David Egan rides for Roger Varian.
