JPRacing - Double Gs

Galway and Goodwood - get your head out of the gutter. Last week was possibly one of my worst ever since starting this journey earlier this year, and I feel downbeat about that. But the only way is up.

We’ve got to wait until tomorrow for Glorious Goodwood, but Galway (mixed) gets underway today and there’s action from the flat at FFos Las, Ayr and Lingfield and jumps at Newton Abbot.

Let’s go!

Headlines

A lot was made of Hakum ahead of the King George, and he ultimately won the G1 in a thrilling finish with Westover. However, Jim Crowley is set to pay the price as he faces a lengthy ban for excessive use of the whip.

The King George winner is set to be targeted for the Arc and is a general 8/1 chance for the Longchamp showdown in October.

Sticking to the topic of the King George, King Of Steel is likely to drop down in trip to a mile and a quarter. Where that will be is yet to be decided.

Nations Pride landed a maiden G1 success in Munich for Charlie Appleby and William Buick, winning the Grosser Dallmayr-Preis - Bayerisches Zuchtrennen. (might have absolutely butchered that).

One to watch

There are only three 2YO races across the cards today and the pick comes from the 6:10 at Galway. Mythology (13/8) is a horse we have beaten in this section before, with the very good Henry Longfellow getting the better of him just over a week ago.

The Coolmore colt is yet to get off the mark for Joseph O’Brien in three races, but his second lto sets a good standard and he should strike today. Air Commander second on debut lto and trained by Aidan is the most likely challenger.

We landed a few exclusive doubles last week, so let’s go for that again today.

The first selection is Novak (15/8) in the 15:40 at Ayr. He’s looking for his fourth win on the bounce today after completing his hat-trick over 6f here lto. The first of those three wins was over today’s distance of 7f and all have come under today’s rider William Pyle.

The next one is from this evening’s card at Ffos Las. Four Adaay nearly got a third win of the season at Chepstow lto, but Penguin Island was too strong and edged by a length. First-time blinkers could help today and Oisin Murphy gets the leg up for the first time back-to-back wins in the saddle back in 2021.

Screw it let’s keep going. I have a shortlist usually and it kills me when one wins and I’ve not put it out there and on last week’s form, I’m just chucking everything out today.

Chriszoff is another horse heading to Ayr on the back of a hat-trick and is favoured to make it four in a row under Hollie Doyle. I think it will win and C&D form after winning here last day is a big bonus, but watch the drift as it started the day odds on and is now 6/5.
