JPRacing - Four Card Monday🃏

The 50th edition of the newsletter slapped on Saturday, with five of the seven horses advised romping home - better the four of the seven tipped that won on Friday.

It’s Ebro Festival week at York, and you can tell because there are only four cards today — with racing at Catterick, Brighton, Bangor-on-Dee and Lingfield.

So, let’s get into it.

Headlines

Coolmore spunked an eye-watering €3 million on back-to-back lots on the final session of the Arqana August Sale at Deauville. One was a €800,000 Wotton Bassett colt out of an American Pharoah half-sister to Requinto. The other was a €2.2m colt by Siyouni out of an Irish-bred Galileo mare.

Andrea Atzeni jets off for the next chapter of his career in Hong Kong after winning the Prix Morny at Deauville aboard Vandeek.

As I said would be the case in a previous newsletter, it has been confirmed that Desert Crown is going to miss the Juddmonte after suffering a potentially career-ending injury.

There was controversy surround Good Earth’s start in yesterday’s Sprint Handicap in the Sky Bet handicap, but it appears (after an enquiry) he just broke perfectly en route to winning by a nose.

There wasn’t a single winning favourite on yesterday’s Sunday Series Card either…

Westover is set to head straight for the Arc after finishing a narrow second to Hakum in the King George before heading stateside for the Breeders’ Cup,

One to watch

There are only three 2YO races today (14:05 Brighton, 15:00 Catterick and 18:50 Lingfield) and today’s NAP comes from the latter.

I’ve still picked one at a nice price from the 15:00 at Catterick, however. It’s Crack The Kode at 5/1. He improved when finishing a close third on his nursery debut at Pontefract in July and that form has been boosted as second who beat him by just a nose followed up at Beverley. Can build on that improvement off a 1lb higher mark today.

Newsletter exclusive tips

The first tip comes from the jumps meeting at Bangor. Police Academy made a winning start in a novice for new trainer Fergal O’Brien at Uttoxeter last month and the six-year-old makes the most appeal to carrying on winning ways back in handicap company at 13/8 in the 20:05.

The other is Topo Chico (11/8) in the 18:20 at Lingfield. She was dropped to 6f at Windsor last Sunday and struck comfortably for David Loughnane, winning by over four lengths under Laura Pearson. She’s got a 6lb penalty for that, but given she won easily, it might not be enough to stop her here.
