JPRacing - Cheltenham!

Yesterday was a complete blowout, and even more annoyingly, cards keep being abandoned.

Newbury’s flat finale is confirmed to be off both today and tomorrow, while Doncaster had to cancel today’s meeting with the Futurity card tomorrow in doubt.

In good news though, Cheltenham is back! The Showcase will run at Prestbury Park today and tomorrow, with today’s feature race the Grade 2 Sky Bet Novices’ Hurdle.

There’s also racing at Lingfield, Sligo, Wolverhampton and Dundalk.

Ones to watch

The Gosden’s Godolphin juvenile Catherine Parr is shortening up massively for the 13:20 at Lingfield — going into 5/4 in most places after being readily available at 9/4 earlier.

The Blue Point filly was fifth of 14 runners over 7f at Kempton last week, and this drop to 6f could suit her with likely improvement on the cards. That could see her get the better of Tiger Tulip, who is carrying a 4lb penalty for a win lto.

Billy Loughnane has a couple of nice 2YO rides at Wolverhampton. The first is on the opener at 16:41, Go Your Own Way (7/2). He’s been second last twice, and in his most recent performance, when only beaten by a head at Kempton last week. He could pick up a second win of his career on that form here.

The other is a horse who has featured in this section before, Zayina. The Double Green filly got off the mark on the third attempt at Brighton earlier this month, and has a 7lb penalty to overcome for that success. She’s up in trip and making her all-weather debut, but stamina is in her pedigree. Has drifted out to 11/4, with money coming for the Gosden’s Eagle Angel.

There are a couple of Paul Nicholls runners who I think have a good chance at Cheltenham this afternoon. Afadil was 8-21 runners here in the Fred Winter at last year’s Festival, but went second in a juvenile handicap hurdle at Ascot in April before rounding the season off with a win at Ayr.

He’s had a wind opp during the offseason and should have more to offer for Nicholls this season, so gets my vote at 5/1 in the opener at the home of jumps racing.

The other is Ginny’s Destiny. He was a useful hurdler for Tom Lacey last season, winning on a couple of occasions and placing in a Grade 2 at Warwick. He makes his stable/chase/handicap debut in the 15:20, but has a good chance of ticking all those boxes at 4/1.
