JPRacing - I’m back 👑

After a much-needed break, I’m back doing the newsletter and following yesterday’s NAP win thanks to Eastern Charm and the NB Sparks Fly landing her six timer, I’m ready and raring to go again!

Given that all roads lead to Newmarket for the July Festival, there’s not much in terms of quality racing today. There’s flat meetings at Ayr, Ripon and Chepstow and jumps at Worcester and Roscommon. However, hopefully we can still bag a few winners.

Headlines

Good Guess won the Prix Jean Prat from 40/1 as Guineas winner Chaldean disappointed. Meditate and Hi Royal were also massively off the mark for the British and Irish raiders at Deauville.

Westover made sure it wasn’t a bad weekend overall for Juddmonte though, winning the Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud under Rob Hornby as the decision to send him to France instead of Sandown for the Eclipse was justified.

Paddington just did enough to beat Emily Upjohn in a thrilling renewal of the Eclipse on Saturday, landing O’Brien a record seventh win in the race, and more could be yet to come from the three-year-old with the Sussex Stakes at Goodwood potentially his next target.

Ones to watch

Today’s first one to watch is Dark Encounter (13/8) in the 14:20 at Ayr. He showed promise when second from 7/1 on debut at Redcar last month and the way he kept on that day indicates he should be better suited to this step up in trip up to 7f. Karl Burke also has good strike rate with 2YOs this season.

The second one to watch comes from the 18:30 at Chepstow and is Eve Johnson Houghton’s Ethandun at 11/8. He was a disappointing sixth lto at Windsor, but showed plenty of promise when second on debut at Goodwood and it is worth giving the Double Green’s Saxon Warrior colt another chance today.

Newsletter exclusive tips

Paul Townend makes his way to Roscommon for one ride for Willie Mullins this evening - Williamstowndancer in the 18:38. The price is constantly shortening and she’s already down to 11/10 best, but she’s going to go off much shorter for sure.

She’s won a bumper and placed in G2 at Aintree Grand National Festival. Won a maiden hurdle lto at Downpatrick and is handed 11lbs from second favourite Lucid Dreams.

The second exclusive is Thirtyfour Thirty (2/1) in the 3:10 Bumper at Worcester. He was beaten by just a neck over C&D on debut last month and that could give him the edge today for the Nigel and Sam Twiston-Davies. Professor Higgins for Seven Barrows could be the biggest danger as he makes his debut under Nico.
