JPRacing - Cheltenham November Meeting pt.2

Surprise! Bet you weren’t expected to get another newsletter from me this weekend, but I have a bit of time on my hands this - so here we are.

We knocked on the door a couple of time today, with Calico only narrowly beaten in second and JPR One falling at the last when it looked it like he was going to hose home.

Hopefully, I can pick a couple of winners from tomorrow’s cards and not have have the same luck as today.

As well as day two of the November Meeting, there’s jumps racing at Navan, Wetherby, Uttoxeter and AW at Wolverhampton and Lingfield.

Let’s get into it…

Ones to watch

Tomorrow’s card at Lingfield starts at the very early time of 11:15, but the first 2YO race is at 12:15.

Early money has come for Ralph’s Beckett’s Games People Play, as it’s been hammered into 6/4 from 9/4.

She was third of seven from 5/1 on debut at Goodwood last month, staying on well in the closing stages, and is the pick on form ahead of the Gosden’s newcomer Lanfranco, who is a son of Frankel and first foal of 2x G1 winner Coronet.

Another 6/4 shot worth considering is Berrygate in the 18:30 at Wolverhampton. The Gregorian filly was third of 11 on debut at this course from 13/2 less than two weeks ago despite greeness.

But the fact Ed Bethell is sending her back out again so soon is perhaps a sign that she is ready and raring to go. Big chance of opening her account all things considered.

Horses and boosts

November Meeting

It’s an interesting battle between Burdett Road and Milan Tino at the fore of the market for the opening Triumph trial.

The latter is a Listed and graded placer over hurdles in France and opened as the favourite, but Royal Ascot winner Burdett Road made a successful start over obstacles at Huntingdon with a 12-length win recently and money is coming for him. My preference is there at 2/1.

Moving on to the Listed Novices’ Chase contest at 13:45, and Good Risk At All looks capable of following up his Chase debut win at Carlisle last month here at 15/8.

This is a big step up in trip from that day (2m4f) to three miles, but he should stay and rain in the forecast is a big bonus.

The big race of the day is the Paddy Power Gold Cup, and Unexpected Party is being slashed in the market - moving into 5/1 from as out as 7s when I even started writing this.

The Skelton horse has some nice form over fences, and he comes into this on the back of a Listed win at Chepstow over Knappers Hill last month. That form has of course been boosted, and his mark and soft ground could both work in his favour.
