New Post
It’s Saturday and I woke up in a good mood this morning, so I thought ‘Why not do another Saturday newsletter special?’ — especially since I missed a couple for various reasons this week.
I was right yesterday about the market support for Centreofattention, as he won the bumper at Wincanton, and I ended up chucking a couple of AW selections in the telegram yesterday evening as I liked the look of Beautiful Dawn (5/4) and Beauzon (2/1) — and both went on to win, of course. 🔥
I think that might be the way forward for evening AW cards. I tend to get the newsletter out early, and the markets can change so much throughout the day, so going forward, I might keep an eye on the evening AW meeting and put fancies in late (unless I’m really strong on it from the morning).
Moving on, we've got jumps at Warwick, Kempton, Wetherby, and Fairyhouse today. Plus, two AW meetings at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford later.
Let’s get down to business, boys! 🏇

12:55 Kempton: Gentle Slopes (13/8)
Two-time bumper winner who showed promise over hurdles when third at Cheltenham in December 2022. Couldn’t follow that up when back there in Jan 2023 when fifth and hasn’t been seen since. But has joined Henderson and still… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

The big race of the day is the Grade 2 Silviniaco Conte Chase at Kempton at 14:07, and there’s very little to separate Pic D’Orhy, Banbridge and Edwardstone at the fore of the market.
Slight preference is starting to come in the market for Paul Nicholls’ runner, who won the G2 1965 Chase at Ascot on reappearance in November, and it is difficult to rule out Edwardstone as he’s been held by Jonbon twice this season.
But I’m going to side with Irish raider Banbridge (3/1). He made a fantastic chaser last season, winning three of his five outings — including the G2 Arkle Trial at the Cheltenham November Meeting and the G1 Novices’ Chase at Aintree to end the season. He also placed in two Irish G1s between those victories, he’s 3-3 in Britain over 2m-2m4f and is surely in with a chance.
I’ve gone for a Henderson horse as my NAP today, and I think it could be a good afternoon for him at Kempton. So, I’m also siding with Kado De Joie in the opener at 9/4.
The 4YO was perhaps unlucky not to open his account on his first start for Seven Barrows at Doncaster in December, as he went clear with the eventual winner Whispering Royal two out but lost his right-front shoe on the run-in.
There’s a chance he can go one better than that today, with Ditcheat debutant Kalif Du Berlais his main threat as he tops the market at 13/8 currently.
At Warwick, the hat-trick-seeking Kyntara is getting a fair bit of market support, as he is into 15/8 in some places but still available at 2s with the likes of Bet365. He’s been a revelation since joining Mel Rowley from Kim Bailey, winning at Lingfield by 13 lengths in November and following that up with a victory by seven lengths at Aintree last month.
On the basis of those wins, a 6lb rise might not be enough to stop him from winning again in the 13:49 and the market appears to be talking as he’s shortening right up from 3s.
From Warwick to Wetherby, Jasmine Bliss looks like she’s worth giving another go in the final race at 15:57. She won her third P2P and was bought for £50,000 thereafter, but was well-held in fourth on her rules debut at Ludlow a couple of months ago.
She might have learned a lot from that experience and she has a tongue tie on for the first time this afternoon. Further improvement should see her win at 13/8.
Crossing the Irish Sea to Fairyhouse, Miss Manzor looks like an interesting runner in the Kenneth Alexander (Honeysuckle) colours in the opener for Paul Townend and Willie Mullins.
The 4YO won her first outing over hurdles in France last May and switched to Willie Mullins for 100,000 euros in November. They chucked her straight into G2 company at Leopardstown in December and she was 7-12 from 18/1 with Rachael Blackmore on board.
There’s still plenty of potential there though and we could see her to her best effect in this drop in grade. She’s available at 2/1.
The feature at Leopardstown in the G3 SBK Dan & Joan Moore Memorial Handicap Chase at 13:57, and I’m going for a big-priced EW shot in this one — Dancing On My Own at 25/1.
11-12 at Fairyhouse in December doesn’t make for good reading, but he won a Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in October and landed a Premier Handicap at Aintree last April, while he was second at Listowel in June. He’s just 2lb higher than win at Cheltenham as well. Chance of being in the mix.
I will keep my eye on Wolverhampton and Chelmsford throughout the day and if I come across anything, it will be in the horses and boosts telegram 🤞
