JPRacing - KemptON

Yesterday was not the start to the year we wanted, with Fakenham being called off before the first race voiding over half the selections in the newsletter and making it a big waste of time on my part.

In the end, only three horses ran and Hollie Doyle produced a sole win on Inner Temple in impressive style. On that performance, winning by over two lengths, that looks like one to side with again in the future.

Anyway, the bad start to the year continues into today as Ffos Las and Huntingdon are both abandoned — leaving just this evening’s AW card at Kempton standing.

That doesn’t leave us a lot to work with today. But we’re going to do it anyway, so let’s get on with it…

Hollie Doyle ended up winning on both her favourites last night, so could be worth siding with again this evening and Ithra appears to be in with a shout of winning the 18:00 at 3/1.

She was a decent third of 33 from 28/1 in first-time blinkers at Lingfield on December 20 and drops a pound for this contest. The Archie Watson-trained horse has knocked on the door a couple of times now, and this could be when she opens her account.

In the 18:30, First Company ended a lengthy losing streak with a victory over this C&D two runs ago in November. The Mark Loughnane-trained horse was disappointing LTO at Wolverhampton when 9-11. But Billy is back in the saddle this evening and 8/1 looks like a decent EW price if he can rediscover that November form.

Engineer has shown plenty of promise in his three runs, finishing 3-11 from 16/1 over C&D on debut before winning at Wolverhampton. He returned here with a second-place finish in November, and is being well-backed for his handicap debut in 19:00 at 5/4.

The 19:30 looks like a wide-open affair, and I like the look of Legacy Power at 15/2. The 400,000gns yearling is a half-brother to four winners, including Harlequeen who won over 1m as 2yo and was third in the Oaks, and has placed twice in three races thus far. Makes handicap debut today at a workable opening mark and the Balding horse could be open to improvement in handicaps.

Revolutionise is by far the most experienced horse in the 20:00. In fact, this will be the veteran’s 52nd outing under rules. On the AW, he is 6/39 and ran well for most of last year — placing five times in nine attempts with three seconds and two thirds. He was a creditable 4/8 from 9/1 at Chelmsford on December 21 and could go well here again at 11/2 under David Probert.

Mamalouka improved massively when second of 12 from 14/1 on her Nursery debut at Chelmsford just over three weeks ago, and was perhaps unlucky not to win when denied by just half-a-length with Billy claiming the filly wasn’t able to get a clear run a furlong out. She’s up 1lb for that effort and is a leading contender if repeating that run under Tom Marquand. Drifting at the time of writing from 5/2 to 10/3, however,
