JPRacing - Thursday 🥶
There were three winners from yesterday’s newsletter. The best of which was Audacious Annie in the bumper at Wetherby. She was tipped at 5/2 and off around 11/8 to win.
The others weren’t as nice as that, unfortunately. Jackpot Des Bordes looked like a good thing at evens, and won for Team Ditcheat as expected (can’t complain about doubling your money really), while Magic Seven hosed up as expected — but was hit with a huge R4 due to the favourite pulling out.
I was apprehensive about today’s racing looking at the weather overnight and this morning, but all four meetings go ahead — so that is good news.
As we all know, it’s the flat jockey’s week off (they’ve refused an additional meeting over the weekend), so it’s still purely jumps this afternoon.
There’s racing from Thurles, Musselburgh, Taunton and Lingfield, so let’s get into it…

11:55 Musselburgh: Ottizzini (5/4)
Didn’t fare very well in G3 at Down Royal on reappearance when 7th, but she won a maiden at Downpatrick in May and could be hard to beat back down in class

First up is a horse I like the look of making its debut for Willie Mullins in the 13:50 Maiden Hurdle at Thurles — Lombron (7/4)
He was third on debut at Compiegne from 22/1 back in April, with the horse behind him going on to win a chase since.
It’s difficult to really assess what to expect from him, but he makes his debut in a winnable race and it should be noted as a good thing that Paul Townend is booked to ride. It definitely has the potential to make a winning start.
Abbey Hill got off the mark over hurdles on the seventh attempt at Plumpton 10 days ago, and that form has been boosted as Dear Ralphy won next time out. He’s effectively only 3lb up in the weights due to claimer Dylan Whelan and should be able to follow up in the opener at Taunton from 6/4 before higher in the weights.
Speaking of Dear Ralphy, he goes again for the third time in 10 days in the opener at Lingfield and is being very well backed in the market to make it 2-2 despite a 7lb penalty. The Anthony Honeyball horse has leapfrogged Shewearsthewellies in the market and is now as short as 11/10, while Lawney Hill’s mount has drifted out to 10/3.
The Listed BetVictor Chase at Thurles looks like a competitive race and Mullins saddles five of the nine runners — four of which are in the top five of the betting.
Haut En Couleurs leads the way at 10/3, but his record over fences is a cause for concern and I’d prefer to side with French Dynamite for Mouse Morris at 7/2. He’s gone well fresh a couple of times in his career, including when winning first time out over hurdles at this course last October.
He had a decent enough campaign last season, with the highlights second by less than half-a-length to Ga Law in the Paddy Power Gold Cup at the November Meeting and second to Fakir D’oudairies in a G2 back here in January.
If he runs to his best, then he has a very good chance of winning here.
