JPRacing - Abandoned

When I said this time last week that the storm was going to wreak havoc on racing, I didn’t think we’d still be seeing meetings abandoned at this stage.

However, the rain has been persistent and cards are being abandoned left, right and centre.

Worcester, Fontwell and the Curragh are off today, leaving only Newmarket and Kempton.

Let’s get into it…

Ones to watch

Six of the seven races at HQ this afternoon are juvenile races, and the hint is in the name as it’s two-year-old.

A Fillies’ restricted novice stakes opens the card at Newmarket, and newcomers Shemozzle and Malinka lead the market for Ralph Beckett. But So Logical made a good start over C&D on soft ground when third from 12/1 here just nine days ago, and my preference would be with her at 3/1 today given that experience.

A Beckett runner is also at the fore of the maiden at 15:00, and I quite like the look of Sea The Thunder (5/2) over Qatar’s Palace Green and Oisin Murphy. The son of Kingman was much improved from his debut ninth when second on soft ground at Salisbury earlier this month and the step up to 1m2f this afternoon should suit.

In the last race of the card, Broadway Act leads the market for Godolphin, and arguably rightly so as he won over C&D here last month. But that was on good to firm, and his two seconds before that were on the faster side.

Therefore, I quite like the look of Mafnood (11/2) for Champion Owners Shadwell. He flopped on the AW at Kempton earlier this month but had some good form on turf prior to that — including a win at Haydock over a mile and a second on soft at Doncaster over this trip. He might appreciate this return to 7f as well.

Today’s NAP is a juvenile, and there’s also a tip in the Horses and Boosts chat for Newmarket, so find that one from the link below 👇️
