JPRacing - Back with a bang 🧨

It’s fair to say the newsletter made a triumphant return after a week and a half or so away yesterday, with the NAP landing for the second day in a row thanks to Geologist and both newsletter exclusives romping home.

Hopefully we can have another good today, with plenty of flat racing at Pontefract, Wolverhampton, Tramore and Brighton and a jumps meeting at Uttoxeter.

Headlines

Fergal O’Brien has split from Graeme McPherson for logistical reasons after just two years of sharing a training license.

Sean Bowen has been cut to 5/4 to win the Jockeys’ Championship after already exceeding the 50 mark with a double on yesterday’s card at Worcester. He’s 23 clear of Brian Hughes and is operating off a strike rate of 27%.

Little Big Bear is a doubt for Saturday’s July Cup at Newmarket after suffering a bruised foot that meant he couldn’t canter for six days. Aidan O’Brien claims he’s 50-50.

Six-time Grade 1-winning hurdler Sharjah could be tested over fences at the age of 10 after Patrick Mullins claimed that the Rich Ricci horse could be targeted for a Beginners’ Chase at the Galway next month.

One to watch

There aren’t many 2YO races to choose from today. In fact, there’s only two — and the opener at Pontefract looks very open, with Keep Warm potentially taking that Nursery Handicap from 4/1.

The one to watch today though is Vice Captain in the 18:30 at Brighton. He’s yet to get off the mark in his four outings to date (4424) and raced far too keenly when a distant fourth at Beverley on Saturday.

He’s back in Maiden company this evening and Billy Loughnane rides for the first time. He could finally get off the mark at 11/10.
