JPRacing - 50th edition 🗞️
I realised yesterday that we were on the 49th edition of the newsletter, so what better way to celebrate the landmark 50th edition than with a Saturday special?
Yesterday was a good day as well, with four of the seven horses advised romping home. The NAP drought ended thanks to C’est Quelqu’un, Miaharris got a nose in front under Oisin Murphy, Lexington Belle struck at Wolverhampton and Naaey won on a nice drift at Wolverhampton.
Tramore is abandoned, but there’s still plenty of racing at Newbury, Ripon, Newmarket, the Curragh, Perth, Doncaster, Market Rasen and Bath.
Headlines
River Tiber is set to do some last-minute work this morning before Aidan O’Brien decides whether to run him in the Prix Morny at Deauville tomorrow. This Coventry winner suffered a setback in training a couple of weeks ago.

Ones to watch
It’s a busy day in terms of cards, but there aren’t too many juvenile races — or at least not as many as there have been in recent days. In total, there are eight across the cards and Ripon (x2) and the Curragh (x3) make up for the bulk of those.
Daniel Tudhope rides the favourites in the two Ripon 2YO contests. Prepschool (11/4) looks to have a very good chance after improving on his debut sixth to stay on well for second over 7f at Epsom earlier this month. On that basis, he should go very close again in this step up to a mile.
I’ll also be on Government Call (5/2) in the second. He was second from 25/1 on debut and struck in a maiden on this going at Sandown just over a week ago. He should have the stamina for this step up in trip to 6f and more progress should be on the cards for this progressive colt.
Over to the Curragh, we were on Henry Longfellow when he won on debut here last month. He’s stepped up to Group 2 company today and should follow up, but I won’t be backing at 2/5.
There is a Ballydoyle newcomer worth taking a chance on in the opener at the Curragh though. This looks like it could be a quality maiden, with all of the 13 runners making debut — so there’s no form to go off.
The one worth siding with is London City at 2/1. He is Ryan’s pick of the two Aidan runners, has a Dewhurst entry and is out of Winter, who won both the British and Irish editions of the 1000 Guineas. He’s also a half-brother to 1m winner Only and 2YO 7f winner Beginnings. Plenty to like.

13:50 Newbury: Arrest (6/4)
Won the G3 Chester Vase comfortably back in May, but hasn’t coped with the good to firm ground since - finishing 10th in Derby and second last at Royal Ascot. Back on good to soft should suit and win could be on the cards… twitter.com/i/web/status/1…

Newsletter exclusive tips
Hollie Doyle’s self-proclaimed ‘best chance of the afternoon’ at Doncaster, It’s hard to oppose Purple Love (9/4) in the 15:40. She was third from 28/1 at Newmarket when reappearing after 11 months off at the beginning of August and the drop back to 7f should suit and improvement from that decent third should be on the cards.
Royal runner Lady Wulfrun (9/4) also looks in with a good chance in the 15:10 at Newmarket. She justified favouritism when winning by a neck at the same odds over C&D last Saturday and she could defy a 6lb penalty to win again today.
One from the world of jumps to finish us off. A Different Kind (5/4) is seeking a hattrick in the 14:45 at Perth after back-to-back novice handicap chases at Uttoxeter last month.
He was 12 lengths ahead of today’s rival Silver Sheen two runs ago and he was 13 lengths clear of another of today’s runner Champ De Gane when second at Cartmel in May. Shorter trip should suit and a 4lb rise might not be enough to deny the hattrick.
