JPRacing - Sunday success
Yesterday was a good one for the JPRacing followers. Alba Longa (NAP) landed easily under Jim Crowley and I took the chance on a second punt as Nigiri caught my eye and it won well as well.
Hopefully that’s a sign of things to come this week after what wasn’t the best of weeks at Goodwood etc. The weather certainly didn’t help with that and the going is still heavy for Windsor tonight.
Carlisle has been abandoned, but there’s still racing at Naas, Cork — today’s only jumps meeting — Ripon, Ayr and, of course, Windsor.
Headlines
Tom Marquand is absolutely flying at the minute. He had four winners at Goodwood and landed a double at Haydock yesterday to win the Jockey Cup on the SkyBet Sunday Series card. He’s taken over Hollie in the Jockeys’ Championship and is catching up with William Buick (nine behind).
The British raiders were denied a win in the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville yesterday. Karl Burke’s Spycatcher was done by a photo finish, while Hollie and Saint Lawrence were just a neck behind. Burke’s second string Cold Case was fourth and Art Power was fifth.
Vauban is the star attraction at Naas today. The Willie Mullins horse only needs a place in the Ballyroan Stakes (G3) for a confirmed entry in the Melbourne Cup in November, He’s 4/7 to win today, but that’s far too short for me.
The Prix du Cadran in October looks set to be the long-term target for Courage Mon Ami after he suffered his first defeat of his career in the Goodwood Cup last week.
One to watch
The Caribbean has featured in this section before — the day he actually managed to get off the mark for Aidan O’Brien at the Curragh last month. He’s been eighth again since, but is now odds-on for the opener at Naas with Ryan on board.
I am opposing him, however. Yes, I know, I’m going against a Ballydoyle runner and one with Ryan in the saddle as well, but I like the look of Launch at 11/4 in this small field and on this soft ground. She improved for a solid third at Cork 10 days ago and can get off the mark for Adrian Murray on the fifth attempt today.

Newsletter exclusive tips
The NAP comes from Ayr and so does the first newsletter exclusive Rory The Cat is one that has featured in this section before and I am backing him again today. He’s 2-4 since joining Lucinda Russell in June, winning most recently at Beverley and that form has been boosted as third that day Fifty Sent has been second since. He’s 7/4 in the last at Ayr.
The next is veteran Lawn Ranger at 7/4 in the 20:30 at Windsor. He went for the line too soon at Sandown lto and weakened to finish midfield under Geogia Dobie. Havlin takes the ride today and the horse is a four-time C&D winner here, so hopefully he can bounce back to winning ways tonight.
From a very well experienced horse to a newcomer, Juri looks very good on paper ahead of its debut for Archie Watson. She’s an Invincible Spirt filly and is a sister to Ajaya, who struck twice over 5/5/6f as a 2YO and half-sister to Extra Elusive. The addition of a hood is a slight concern for a debut, but she’s got the form on paper. She’s 13/8 for the 15:20 at Ripon.
