JPRacing - Vauban 🍬

Lawn Ranger was our only winner yesterday and it turned out to be dodgy as fuck in the end. I didn’t know that when I picked it out, but it wasn’t for losing!

Today’s cards are very uninspiring to say the least. We’ve got flat racing at Ffos Las, Catterick, Ripon and Chelmsford and jumps at Roscommon.

Anyway, I’ll try my best to pick some winners.

Headlines

Vauban confirmed his entry in the Melbourne Cup with a convincing win in the Group 3 Ballyroan Stakes at Naas yesterday. He’s now as short as 4/1 in some places for the Australian showpiece.

Robbie Geoghegan has been slapped with a 50-day before failing to pull up Sole Pretender despite it suffering an injury at Galway on Sunday.

Maurice de Gheest second Spycatcher is heading for the Sprint Cup before a tilt at British Champions Day.

Blue Rose Cen’s connections are considering supplementing her for the Arc. The Prix Vermeille is up first though.

One to watch

There are six 2YO races across the cards today, so I’ll try and pick a couple of winners.

The first up is Devil’s Point at 6/4 in the 15:05 at Ffos Las. He was a promising 5th of 10 runners from 12/1 at Sandown on debut under Kieran Shoemark last month. He should come on from that massively and he holds a G2 Champagne Stakes entry so must be very well rated by David Menuisier. Oisin Murphy takes the ride today, hopefully, he can rediscover some form.

The other is another 6/4 chance — Ice Max is the 2:50 at Catterick. The Karl Burke horse was fourth of nine runners from 15/2 on debut at Haydock last month. He should also come on from that promising appearance and strike today. Stablemate Respectful is his nearest rival at 4/1.

First up is Gentle And Kind (9/4) in the opener at Roscommon. She returned from a mammoth 811-day break to finish a very good second from 14/1 in her rules debut in a Mares Maiden Hurdle at Kilbeggan last month. The winner of that race has since gone on to finish fourth in a Listed contest at Galway. There’s plenty to suggest she can go one better under Rachael Blackmore tonight.

The other is a short price but there’s not a lot more out there I fancy. It’s Moulin Boy at 11/10 in the 5:20 at Ffos Las. He got off the mark at Wolverhampton four days ago as the penny finally dropped with a hood on over 5f. He’s under a 6lb penalty for that, but he can follow up under Benoit De La Sayette.
