The newsletter has been all over the place recently due the cancellations and me just being generally busy, but I’ve been trying to make up for it with picks in the telegram channel.

We are back to basics today though, and it looks like a good day to get back to the nitty gritty as there’s jumps at Down Royal, Newbury and Leicester, as well as an AW card at Southwell this evening.

After Jack Kennedy and Gordon Elliott, Gavin Cromwell and Keith Donoghue have the best strike rates at Down Royal and Ask Anything appears to have a good chance of following up after his win on the second try over fences.

He won at this course on Boxing Day after finishing second to a Mullins runner on Chase debut at Clonmel earlier in the month and he can go well again today on that form. He’s 7/4 for the 14:55. The Other Mozzie at 4/1 is another decent chance for that duo in the 13:10

The Famous Five is yet to get off the mark in four attempts over hurdles, but he’s showed improvements and remains unexposed. Drop in trip today should suit and is getting market support, backed into 13/8.

Counsel won for the first time since July 2022 when he returned after a seven-month absence at Lingfield last Monday, romping home by almost three lengths under Callum Sheppard. He’s back on top today and 5lb penalty might not stop them going again at 7/4 in the 18:00 at Southwell.
