Yesterday was one of the strangest, most unpredictable days of racing I’ve perhaps ever witnessed — let alone since I started doing this.
Markets were fluctuating like crazy, and the two triple-figure winners at Lingfield pretty much speak volumes for the day’s racing.
Both Bangor and Ayr are abandoned this afternoon, leaving just three AW cards at Dundalk, Newcastle and Kempton.
Let’s get on with it…

Ones to watch
There are two juvenile races at Dundalk and five at Kempton.
Turning our attention to the opener over in Ireland first, Clever Impulse (6/4) looks capable of getting off the mark for Joseph O’Brien in the maiden contest at 13:50.
She did well to stay on for fourth over C&D on debut last month after breaking slowly that day, but she might come on from that experience and looks like the one to beat on form figures and against a wealth of newcomers.
The market has spoken ahead of the opener at Kempton, with last time out winner Engineer on a huge drift after being the market leader this morning as money is coming for Shadwell’s Mukaafah, who is into 13/8.
The Blue Point colt was well beaten when fourth on debut at Yarmouth last month despite going off as the favourite. The ground perhaps wasn’t in his favour that day, so he could show improvement on this surface, and Engineer has to give him 7lb in the 15:45.
Shadwell have another interesting prospect in the 17:30 at Kempton. Tawajjah is by Frankel and G3 winning dam Tawaany, and could get the better of last time winner Musical Act on debut.
The Godolphin horse looks the one to beat after winning here in August, and is as short as 11/8, but Tawajjah is shortening in the market to 5/1 from 7s and is 11/10 for three places.

Got off the mark on his 14th AW attempt at Wolverhampton last month, and claimer Brendan Wilkie effectively removes his rise in the weights. Capable of following up over this longer trip

Inverlochy opened his account at Chelmsford last week, winning by over a length at this distance and she escapes a penalty for that success thanks to it being in an apprentices’ race. As long as her form can translate to the tapeta, she has a fantastic chance of following up at 9/4 in the 18:50 at Newcastle.
Back to Kempton, Orzo was a C&D winner on debut here in 2021. However, she has only been seen twice since with two-successive thirds at this course in April and at Newmarket last month.
That third-place at HQ last month is worth noting as it was her handicap debut and she fancied at 11/1, so outran expectations, and she could be able to strike again under Oisin Murphy at 9/4 in the 19:00.
